Gold Saved Her Family; Entrepreneur Now Thanks the Metal through Product-Line

(Kitco News) - Meet Patti Pao.A successful entrepreneur,a Berkeley and Harvard MBA graduate and someone who truly appreciates gold’s value.
Patti Pao, Founder of Restorsea, turned to gold for inspiration.
Pao’s family fled communist China with the help of the yellow metal; years later, gold would leak into the entrepreneur’s inspiration for her skincare line.
The vibrant and lively Pao, started her luxury skincare line in 2012 – today, her products are carried by high-end retailer, Bergdorf Goodman. One of her star top-sellers, is a face oil which uses 24 karat gold flakes.
“I love gold and colloidal gold has a lot of health benefits. One day, I said to my formulator, ‘I think it would be very interesting to see if we could add real flakes of gold to this product,’” she said on the phone from Los Angeles. Reflecting on the ‘golden’ inspiration for the product, Pao said, “Face oils are really hot right now, but I wanted to differentiate myself.”
Pao’s Chinese heritage, also gives her a unique perspective on gold’s monetary value. She explains that her family fled communist China in 1949. “[A]ll their fortune was smuggled out in a belt filled with gold bullion,” she recounted.

She added that her uncle, a little boy at the time, carried the belt with “hundreds of ounces of gold” on the boat which would lead them to freedom.
Today Pao and her products are garnering Hollywood support by the likes of actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Emmy Rossum. A 30-year veteran in the beauty industry, Pao says the health benefits associated with gold include helping to reduce inflammation, soothing stressed skin and helping to restore skin’s elasticity.
